Clothing often needs to be photographed when lying flat. In such a setup a Light Tent can
have its limitations, especially with a camera positioned above the clothing.

Light Boxes are the best solution to photograph clothing quickly and easy:
| |
|
|
• It’s easy to lay down the clothing and adjust it if needed.
• The diffuse lighting result in great photos with limited shadows.
• Photos show natural colours.
• It’s easy to take pictures straight down
• Every background can be used.

The Setup
| |
|
|
Lay the clothing down on a flat surface (table). A plain white sheet of paper can be used to obtain an even white background.
Use the Light Boxes to lighten the subject from two sides, mounted on low stands. You can also use the Light Boxes on high stands if you wish
to postion the lamps next to the table where the clothing rests on.
|
| |
Keep the distance between the Light Boxes and the clothing as small as possible to maximise the amount of light shining on the subject.
You can move the clothing if needed and take a photo shooting straight down. It’s absolutely necessary to keep the camera stable.
You can use a tripod for this, whereby the tripod rests on only two legs, while pushing the camera forward and hover it above the clothing.

|
|
|
A far better solution is to use a tripod with an arm which can be placed in a vertical position.
This enables you to work quickly and ensures a stable camera position.
When shooting smaller clothing objects like socks and underwear, a Copy Stand might be a valuable asset.
