Camera

What camera do you need?
A simple, good quality camera (approx. pric 150-350 EUR or GBP 100-250) is sufficient for taking great product images with the use of the Light Tent. E.g. Canon Ixus 110, Canon Ixus 210, Sony DSC W380 and Nikon Coolpix S640. The camera should be able to make crisp, clear images with a natural colour balance. So-called "snapshot" or "one-touch" cameras are not suitable for use with the Light Tent. The possibility to adjust the camera settings with these cameras are very limited.

Memory
In general, the memory card provided with the camera is not sufficient. Buy additional memory capacity to store your pictures taken.

Macro
The macro feature enables you to take pictures from a close distance, without loosing parts of the subject because it won’t fit within the frame. Most cameras do have a macro option, this setting is often symbolized with a flower. For SLR cameras, special Macro lenses are available.

White Balance
Different light sources do have different colour temperatures. This means they contain different levels of blue, green and red light. The result of this is that colours may differ significantly on the photo from the actual colours. For example, photos taken with a conventional light bulb are often yellowish. Our daylight bulbs compensate a lot of these distortions. However, it can still be necessary to adjust the colour balance with the so-called white balance functionality on your camera. The white balance can also be adjusted with software.

Mega pixels
Almost every camera has a resolution of at least 2 Mega pixels. More mega pixels does not mean better pictures, but it does mean bigger files. In fact often 2 Mega pixels is fine for product photography (unless you want to posterize the images taken).

Tripod
A tripod is essential part of the photography equipment necessary for product photography. They steady the shot and ensure crisp, clear, professional images every time.
